SHIRLEY V. MERRILL of Hale; formerly of Genesee County, passed away March 3, 2012 at 71 years of age.

Born Shirley Virginia Granger on December 13, 1940 in Grand Blanc, Michigan to Louis and Flossie Granger.  She graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1959 and Baker College in 1980.  She married Basil Merrill on March 25, 1961 in Davison, Michigan.

Shirley was a real estate agent and had received the Dowsett Real Estate Agent of the Year award and was the 2009 Hale Winter fest Queen.  She enjoyed painting, traveling and camping.

Mrs. Merrill is survived by her husband, Basil.  Children, Duane (Sheila) Merrill, Julie (Tim) Hester and Shawn (Erica) Merrill.  Grandchildren, Jacob Merrill, Garrett Hester, Brennan Merrill and Logan Merrill.  Step-grandchildren, Jason Hester, Nichole Hester (Jason) Babin.  Step great-grandchildren, Chelsea Babin, Matt Babin, Madalynn Hester, Jackson Hester and Jacoba Babin.  Siblings, Delbert (Joyce) Granger.  Preceded in death by her siblings, Thelma (Granger) Hill, Louis Granger and Alfred Granger.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Hale Chapel of the Buresh Funeral Home, 121 S. Washington.  The family will receive friends Monday from 2- 8 P.M.  Rev. Del Granger and Rev. David K. Stewart, Sr. officiating.  Interment will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
