Margaret J. Cody, age 92, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, following a period of declining health. The former Margaret J. Nagy was born December 4, 1919 on the family farm in Fairgrove, the daughter of the late Julius & Mary (Wagner) Nagy. She worked in various places throughout her lifetime, including several area restaurants as a cook, the Collon Funeral Home as a greeter, and also the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility where she served as a nurse’s aide until her retirement in 1985. Margaret had a kind spirit and enjoyed volunteering to help others, and was a regular at the Caro VFW Post where she would cook during Bingo games. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and sharing time with people.
Margaret is survived by four children and their spouses, Nancy & Christopher Zemke of Deford, Ed Cody and his fiancé, Jacki, of East Tawas, Patrick & Cindy Cody of Key West, Florida, Peter & Karen Cody of Caro; her step-daughter, Patsy Duby of Oscoda; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Helen McKellar of Au Gres; and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tiffiny Lyn Cody in 2008; and sister, Dorothy Damm in 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Mariann Saenen officiating. Burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. The Caro VFW Auxiliary Post 4164 will present a service of remembrance on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Home and Hospice Advantage or to the Caro VFW Post 4164.
