Leopold (Leo) Guerin Jr. age 81 of Millington, MI. passed away Monday April 16, 2012 at Sterling Home Care & Adult Social Services in Vassar MI.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 20, 2012,11 AM at the Mayville United Methodist Church with Pastor Carole Brown officiating.
The family will receive visitors 1 – 8 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Avram Funeral Home and 10 A.M. until time of service at the church.
Internment will take place at the Watertown Township Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #181 and Mayville/Vassar VFW Post #10884.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital For Crippled Children, Chicago Unit.
Millington Masonic Lodge #470 F & AM will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 PM, Thursday, at the Avram Funeral Home.
Leo was born on January 6, 1931 in Flint, MI. the son of Leopold Carl and Cecilia (Lafayette)Guerin Sr. He is a graduate of Oceanside Carlsbad High School of Oceanside,CA in 1949. He married Joan Clark November 26, 1955 in Flint, MI. Leo enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948 and participated in the Korean War at it's beginning of the Puson Defense Perimeter and later in several amphibious landings and the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. Upon discharge in 1952 he hired into Buick Motor Division to begin a career covering 34 years during which time he was able to advance to General Foreman. In 1963 he became a 32 Degree Mason and a Shriner in 1967. He has worked the Shrine Circus for several years as a member of the Provost Guard within the Shrine and a member of the Elf Khurafeh Shriners Club of Clio, MI. He also was involved in several other organizations: Port Hope Boat Club, a Life Member of the V.F.W. Mayville Post #10884, The Buick Salary Executive Club and a monthly breakfast club with other retired supervisors who worked together at Buick Engine Plant #36.
He is survived by three sons; Jeff (Tracey) Guerin of Chase, MI., Rodney (Diane) Guerin of Mayville, MI Eric (Cindy) Guerin of Read City, MI., and one daughter; Brenda (Scott) Rubino of Millington, MI.
eight grandchildren; Nicole Walker, Samantha Guerin, Amanda and Bradley Allen, Aleisha and Sandra Guerin, Miranda and Thomas Guerin, one great grandson; Brennan.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife; Joan in 2009 and one son; David, a brother; Clifford, four sisters; Anita Dare, Iva Lane, Dorothy Hazen, Elizabeth Geesey.
