Bruce Vautrin Lyon, passed away at the age of 73, on Friday, April 27, 2012 at home in Gladwin. He was born in Alma, Michigan on May 27, 1938 to Theo and Emma (Vautrin) Lyon. He married Joann E. Bourland on August 30, 1959. After teaching science and biology, and coaching various sports at Mt. Pleasant Jr. High School, he moved to Gladwin with his family in 1968. Bruce served in the positions of Intermediate School and Jr. High School principal, where he retired in 1995 after 27 years of service. While in Gladwin, Bruce was very active in the community. He was a charter member of the Gladwin Lion's Club; a ten year member of the Gladwin Area Hospital Board where he served as chairman in 1985 and was very involved in school activities throughout his career. He was an avid golfer, bowler, duck hunter and fisherman, and loved staying busy in the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joann; his daughter, Jennifer (Bill) Yontz of Howell; his son, Mark (Angie) Lyon of Gladwin; his grandchildren Matthew, Brandon and Amanda; extended family members; and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Lou Kniffen; his brother, Jack Lyon and his grandson Wesley Allen Yontz. Bruce was a wonderful son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 from 2-8:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Michael Snyder and Tom Winarski on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
