            Passed away Sunday, May 6 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper in Saginaw after a lengthy illness, age 73. Charles was born May 22, 1938 in Packard, Kentucky. He moved to mid-Michigan at age 4 and lived in the area most of his life. Charles was employed as a journeyman toolmaker for 40 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Freeland United Methodist Church, was very active in the Freeland Little League program for many years, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and card player. He also served in the National Guard from 1958-64. He married A. Elaine Lamb on August 31, 1957; she survives him. Also surviving are: four children, Carolyn Hirsche of Marseilles, Ill., Beth (Dan) Valentine of Saginaw, C. Douglas (Kelly) Lamb of Frankenmuth, and Angela (Jon) McQuinn of Freeland; seven grandchildren, Amber, Brent (Melissa), Natascha, Matthew, Jessica, Connor and Kayla; great-grandchildren Austyn and Katlyn; two brothers, Lonnie Lamb of Florida and Roy Lamb of Saginaw; and a sister, Mary Alice (Bill) Lloyd of Hope. Charles was predeceased by a son, Gregory, and a daughter, Deanna.

 

            Funeral and committal services will take place 2 p.m. Friday, May 11 at the Freeland United Methodist Church. Rev. James Rule will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington St., Freeland, on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from noon until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to considered the Freeland United Methodist Church Mandoo Fund for Habitat for Humanity, the FUMC Youth Mission Trip Fund, or the donor’s favorite charity.
