Arlene M. Sugar, age 76, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 unexpectedly at the MidMichigan Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 26, 1935 in Midland to the late Edward J. and Mae A. (Carrigan) McNett.
She married Russell E. Sugar in Midland on September 11, 1954. She was a Para-pro at H.H. Dow High School until her retirement in 1991. She was a loyal member of the Homer United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, Hands of Hope, United Methodist Women, and Church Women United. She followed her husband, children and her grandchildren in their sports everywhere they went. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and best friend to anyone she met!
She is survived by her husband Russ, daughters and son-in-laws, Maribeth (Brian) Len of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Lisa (Dave) Smith of Midland, and son, Jeff Sugar and Karen Sugar of Farmington Hills. Grandchildren Andrea (Justin) Lewis, Alexis Len, Alex (Leanne) Sugar, Hailey Surgar, Christian and Mitchell Smith, and Great-Grandson, Brayden Sugar and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan A. Sugar.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Homer United Methodist Church with Pastor David G. Mulder officiating with burial to follow in Midland Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 4 until 7:00 p.m. at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly and at the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
