Hacker, Alberta May
Went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 8, 2012, at the age of 87 years.
Alberta was born August 4, 1924, in Saginaw to the late Bert and Anna (Barnekow) Smith. She graduated from Saginaw High School with the class of 1942. She married Wesley Hacker on June 24, 1961, and he predeceased her November 1, 1990. They traveled throughout Michigan and Canada with their R.V. Avion trailer. Alberta traveled to Italy and Ireland and cruised the Caribbean. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was employed as a secretary by Second National Bank, Main office and State Street Branch in the Savings Department. She also worked for Osborne’s Children Shop and Jacobson’s of Saginaw. She was a member of the Saginaw National Secretaries Association where she served as treasurer. She also belonged to the Saginaw Bowling Association, League Singles and Mixed Doubles where she received many trophies. She became involved with volunteer work on December 11, 1960, when she joined the Saginaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross. After completing training for their “Gray Lady” volunteer services, Alberta was formally capped and honored at the Saginaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross “Capping Ceremony”. She volunteered at the Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Admin Hospital in Saginaw. Alberta then became a member of the Michigan Assoc. of Hospital Auxiliaries (MAHA). She also volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital (now Covenant) for 20 years serving as Guild President from 1975-1976. Then she accepted the position of East Central District President (E.C.D.) from 1976-1977. She attended hospital auxiliary meetings, fundraising events, and monthly MAHA board meetings in Lansing.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Susan (Edward) Tennyson of Appleton, Wisconsin, grandson, Christopher (Jennifer) Kenzie of Birch Run; son-in-law, Thomas Kenzie of Birch Run; several cousins, nieces, nephews; and her companion, Katey the cat. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Smith.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, at W.L. Case & Company 5700 Dixie Hwy. Rev. William Hessler will officiate with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
