Dan was born December 7, 1953, in Bay City, graduated from Essexville Garber High school and continued his education at MSU earning a degree in Landscape Nursery Management. He met Louise at MSU and they were married November 6, 1976.
After his education, Dan joined the family business, Bay Landscaping, more than 30 years ago. Dan loved and enjoyed many things in this life but some of the most important were skiing, golf and motorcycle riding.
Dan was an avid Alpine skier and involved with the Ski Patrol on the divisional, regional and local level; his home ski area was Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs. Dan began his ski patrol association in 1986, working his way up to certified patroller in 1995. In 1997-98, he was awarded Outstanding Administrative Patroller, and was a Northern Michigan Region Section Chief. He was deeply involved in testing and training for the organization as well. His awards include three Yellow Merit stars and countless Certificates of Appreciation and, most coveted among his skiing peers, Dan’s National Appointment to the Ski Patrol was awarded in 1997. Dan also served as ski coach for Essexville-Garber Ski Team from 1996-2004, and was involved in the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA), achieving certification in all three levels.
