Sarah H. Gettel (Fulco), age 75, of Sebewaing, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012 after a very long illness spanning nearly 25 years. She had an amazing ability and a strong constitution which enabled her to overcome many health crises until the past few months.
Sarah, known to the family as Sally, was born the eldest of 8 daughters and 1 son to the late James and Dorothy (Morse) Fulco in Bay City on August 20, 1936. Sarah lived in Bay City until her marriage December 31, 1958 to the late Kenneth Gettel, then moving and raising her family on the John Jacob Gettel homestead farm on N. Bay Port Rd. in Bay Port, MI. She had resided in Sebewaing the past 14 years.
Sarah enjoyed bingo, playing cards, dining out, drives in the country, old classic movies, Mario Lanza recordings, was a avid trivia buff and especially loved family gatherings.
Left to cherish her memory are 2 sons and their families; Jeff and Irene Gettel of Marshallville, Georgia; Mark and Margie Gettel of Sebewaing; her beloved grandchildren, Amber Gettel (Justin Lewis) of Petoskey, Ryan Gettel of East Jordan, Chanc and Isiah Gettel of Sebewaing, and 3 step grandchildren.
Also are surviving are her siblings; Harriet Pavlawk, Connie Tackman, Dell Burns, Kathy Nalett all of Bay City, as well as Rose Kirchhofer of Gladstone, MI and James Fulco of Jacksonville, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, an aunt, Betty Verbeke of St. Helen.
Besides her husband and parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rock and Saveria Fulco, Harvey and Hattie Morse as well as 2 sisters, lois Morin and Jane Pfund.
Sarah was very appreciative of the long time care of Dr. Japhet Joseph, cardiologist, and Dr. Paul Scaddan, her family physician.
Visitation is Thursday, August 2, 201, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-9pm.
Funeral will be Friday, August 3, 2012 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am.
Memorial donations may be given to the Sebewaing Ambulance or American Heart Association.
