Shirley passed away Friday, August 3, 2012. She was born in Collierville, Tennessee to Willie F. and
Rosie L. (Cowans) Jones. She was a 1963 graduate of Bay City Central, as well as a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a BA degree as well as a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. Shirley was a member of 2nd Baptist Church and the NAACP. She enjoyed bowling, has volunteered at the library for the Literacy Program, and was an avid gardener with a very “green” thumb, and a true blue Michigan football fanatic. She has worked over 23 years as a Probation Agent with the Bay County Department of Corrections as well as the 1st African American court reporter in Bay County.
She is survived by her daughter Halima Shani Jones Henderson of New York City; her mother, Rosie Jones of Essexville; brothers, James Kennie Jones and Willie Nadren Jones, both of Bay City; and nephews Jeremy (Jennifer) Rall of Los Angeles CA, and Tyson Jones of Bay City. Also surviving are many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Willie F. Jones.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 6 PM at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home, 700 N. Monroe St., Bay City MI, with Rev. John Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Heartland Hospice Memorial
