Lois Elaine (Minnis) Benway
Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend with an extensive circle of active friendships, many lasting over 80 years, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012. Age 88 years.
The daughter of the late Leo and Mamie (Reynolds) Minnis was born August 30, 1924 in Saginaw. She was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1942. Lois married Roy Alexander Benway Jr., April 19, 1947. He passed away August 25, 1998. She had been employed in retail, working at Three Sisters, Seitner’s, Daniel’s and Zales. Lois was an honored member of “the Greatest Generation” and a strong believer in the American Dream. She was a member of the Democratic Party. Lois loved baseball and the Detroit Tigers, movies, television and Broadway with a special fondness for Bette Davis, Judy Garland and Shirley Temple. She loved Christmas, Santa Claus, soap operas and shopping.
Surviving are her daughter, Jeryl Ann (Benway) Stoltz, Mooresville, NC; a son-in-law, Richard C. Aiken, Midland, MI; her granddaughter, Heather Aiken, Saginaw, MI; her grandson, Brandon Aiken, Midland, MI; three great grandchildren, Alex Smith, Ashlyn Smith, Elyse Smith, all of Saginaw, MI; several nephews; her special friend and caregiver, Judy Gates. She was predeceased by her parents, husband and a daughter, Janis Carol (Benway) Aiken, a son-in-law, Larry E. Stoltz, a great granddaughter, Haven E. Smith and a sister and brother, Rhea M. Hoffman and Ray Minnis.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. C. William Weis will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Hospice Advantage or the Leukemia and Lymphomas Society. In honoring their longstanding friendships with Lois, honorary pallbearers will be Lois Coulson, Mary Jane McDonnell, Rosemary Martuch, Eleanore Crannell, Helen Colton, Lucille Maier, Mary Beeg, Dorothy Rice, Pat Smith and Florence Ezop. Mrs. Benway’s family with to thank the staff and caregivers of Caretel for their care.
