Irene Dorothy Caldwell, age 98, of Mio, passed away at The Home at AuSable Valley Community on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.
Irene was born near Kneeland in Oscoda County on November 14, 1913 to John and Ella Speck. She lived in Oscoda County for all but 8 years of her life. She married Evert Caldwell on October 6, 1933. They had 2 sons: Norman (Donna) Caldwell of Luzerne, MI and Glen Roy (Constance) Caldwell of Holt, MI. She was employed by Big Creek Township for more than 25 years; serving on Election Boards, serving as Deputy Treasurer, and then as Treasurer. She was responsible for changing the tax rolls from hand- written to machine- printed. Irene was an active member of the Mio United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Mio Rebekah Lodge for more than 74 years, serving locally and at District, State, and International levels with many projects to her credit.
Surviving are her 2 sons, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Evert; 2 sisters, 1 brother, and an infant grandson.
Visitation on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 from 1 - 9 PM, with a Rebekah Memorail Service at 7 PM, at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio. Visitatiuon also on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at The Mio United Methodist Church from 10 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 11 AM, with Pastor Tracy Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, MI.
