Harold Sharp, age 97, entered his heavenly home on February 26, 2013. Harold was born on June 20, 1915 to Elmer and Clara (Kauffman) Sharp in Fairview Michigan. As a boy he moved, with his parents and sister, to North Dakota, where he lived until age 7. In 1922, his family returned to Fairview. He continued his education there, graduating from Mio High School in 1934.
Harold was a farmer and carpenter. In 1956, he was ordained to the ministry and faithfully pastored the congregation at Wellington Mennonite Church until 1975. He loved to hunt and fish and was caretaker at Clinton Rod and Gun club for many years. In his later years he started working sudoku puzzles, writing poetry, playing dominos and rummy cube. He was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers and never missed watching them on TV.
Harold married his wife of 66 years, Anna (Troyer), on June 2, 1940. She preceded him in death on Sept.1, 2005. Together they raised seven children. Surviving him are four sons, Dennis (Ruth) Sharp, Arcadia FL; Galen (Donna) Sharp, Alberta, Canada; Eldon (Patti) Sharp, Arcadia FL; Larry (Nancy) Sharp, Venice FL, and three daughters, Wahnita (Ed) Rupprecht, Frankenmuth MI; Janice (Lynn) Miller, Woodburn OR and Carol (Jim) Showalter, Broadway VA. Also surving are 21 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, Harold was preceded in death by his sister Anita Swartz and four brothers-in-law.
Visitation Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2:00 - 9:00 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio and on Monday, March 4, 2013 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at The Fairview Mennonite Church, with Pastor Phil Bontrager and Pastor Virgil Hershberger officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery , Fairview, Michigan.
