Matthes, Arthur R. – of Birch Run, age 92, died Tuesday, March 09, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, March 12, 2010 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. John Sarge officiating. Burial in Cook Cemetery with military honors under the direction of the Birch Run VFW # 7542. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-9 PM. A VFW memorial will be held at 7PM Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Taymouth Township Fire Dept.

Arthur was born September 7, 1917 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John and Bessie (Liddicoat) Matthes. He married Lorraine Likam on March 1, 1952. She preceded him in death December 13, 2009. Arthur was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed at Saginaw Transmission for 31 years, retiring in 1974 and was a member of UAW Local 467. Arthur was also a member of the Birch Run VFW Post #7542 and the Birch Run Area Saddle Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching deer and turkey, playing cards, the Detroit Tigers, telling jokes and stories and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are: 2 sons and 3 daughters: Robert (Linda) Matthes, Ronald Matthes (Linda Lehman), Sue Matthes (Cliff Newton), Sandra (Dorn) Morse and Linda (Kenneth) Haubenstricker. 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. 2 sisters: Wanda Howard and Mary Jane Abraham.  Please sign our guest book or share an online condolence with the family at www.oguinnfh.com.
