Katelyn Marie Burkhart, 9, of Wellston, became an angel on Thursday, November 13, 2014. She was born November 10, 2005, in Traverse City, the daughter of Geoffrey Burkhart and Joan (Chandler) Schmidt.
Katelyn was a happy little girl with a spunky personality. She loved Frozen, Tinker Bell, and Curious George, and she loved to cuddle her stuffed pony. She loved listening to all kinds of music and could dance to anything with a beat. Katelyn loved to watch movies and was a master of getting into things. She loved to give hugs and kisses and always had a smile on her face. Katelyn touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and she spread love and happiness wherever she went without ever expecting anything in return. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Katelyn is survived by: her parents, Geoffrey (Jacky) Burkhart of Bear Lake and Joan (Carl) Schmidt of Wellston; her brother, Nathaniel Burkhart; her stepbrothers, Ethan Skaggs of Bear Lake and Jake Morgan of Bear Lake; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Sandra Chandler of Brethren; her paternal grandmother, Diana Glinski of Mancelona; her maternal step-grandparents, Carl and Lisa Schmidt, of Kaleva, and Tim and Lynn Recker of Rolla, Missouri, her paternal step-grandparents, Stuart and Kathleen Swiger of Manistee; her aunts, Valerie (Matthew), Bracy, and Joann; her uncle, Scott; her special great-aunt and caregiver, Carol Kudalski of Brethren; and many cousins and friends.
Katelyn was preceded in death by: her paternal grandfather, Ed Glinski; and by her maternal great-grandmother, Cassie Barker.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Shrine, in Manistee, with the Reverend John McCracken celebrant. Interment will take place in Old Schoolhouse Cemetery, in Brown Township, in the spring. Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva.
