FELAN, FABIAN FELIX, Brighton, Michigan, (formerly of Bay City) passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at WellBridge of Brighton Rehabilitation Center, age 66. The son of the late Fabian H. and Maria L. Felan, Fabian was born on June 20, 1948 in Edinburg, Texas. Fabian is survived by his son, Matthew (Janelle) and his two beloved grandchildren Noah and Alexandra. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend Barbara Fergus and her children Sarah, Joshua (Raquel), Rick (Candice) and Paul (April), and Barb’s grandchildren Ruger, Roanan, and Kaia. He is also survived by his brothers’ Jose (Terry), and Michael, nephews Jason and Ben, nieces Heather (Don) Sodee, Holly (Michael) Hardy, Madalyn, great niece Ashleigh and ex-wife Margaret Felan. He was recently preceded in death by his younger brother Gabriel of Bay City.
Fabian was a 1966 graduate of St. James High School. He attended Delta College where he studied Broadcast Communications. Fabian was the voice of Delta College in the late 1960s. Fabian worked his entire career with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. He served as both an Investigator and a Mediator for the Department.
Fabian enjoyed traveling, especially long car trips to visit relatives across the country, trips to Walt Disney World, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and was an avid sports fan, particularly of all things Michigan State, the Detroit Tigers, high school football/basketball and even NASCAR.
Fabian may best be known as the voice of the All Saints Cougars. Fabian served as the Football, Boys Basketball, and Girls Basketball announcer for the better part of 30 years starting in 1969. He also announced Pinconning Boys Basketball through the 1980s. For the past 14 years, Fabian has announced Fowlerville High School Football and Basketball. Fabian was the President of the All Saints Athletic Club for 9 years. He was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Parish where he volunteered as a lector. Fabian also served multiple terms as a member of the St. Stan’s Athletic Club.
The Funeral Mass celebrating Fabian’s life will be Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Parish/St. Stanislaus Kostka Church (1503 Kosciuszko St., Bay City) at 10:00 am with Fr. James R. Carlson presiding. Fabian will lie in state in church Saturday starting at 9:00 am. Visitation will be held at Trahan Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 2, from 2:00 – 7:00 pm, followed by a 7:00 pm Vigil Wake Service.
