Presque Isle, Michigan,
Formerly of Saginaw.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away on February 6th at 89 lovely years old. The daughter of the late Stanley and Stella (Stupnicki) Slawinski. Helen was born on December 30, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Henry B. Schaffer on September 17, 1949 and they shared 65 years of togetherness. Henry survives her. Helen was employed as a secretary for Saginaw General Hospital for 18 years retiring in 1987. Helen was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Casimir site.
Surviving besides her husband Henry are two daughters and two sons, Michael and Peggy Schaffer, Rhodes, Michigan; Janet and Michael Salas, Newport Beach, California; Diane Faris, Presque Isle, Michigan; and Henry Schaffer Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Michael (Kerry) Schaffer, Rachael Salas, and Sam and Maggie Schaffer. She also has a very close sister, Edwina Chronowski. Helen was preceded in passing by her brother and sister, Burnell Slawinski and Della Naleson. She was our doctor, our nurse, our financial advisor, and our Jill of all trades. She was the first person we called when things went wrong (and when they went right). To Helen's grandchildren, she was the baker, the teacher, and the holder of hands. Her intellect and sense of humor, even at 89 was incredible. She will be deeply missed and held in our hearts forever.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Casimir site, 2122 S. Jefferson, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Stephen J.
