Survived By: Spencer is survived by his wife, Debra Rathbun; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie & Scott Rittenhouse of Saginaw; step-daughters and their spouses, Tracy & David Schulz of Naples, Florida, Brandy & Bill Hoch of Huntley, Illinois; grandchildren, Brian, Cody and Anthony Rittenhouse, Hadley and Edyn Hoch; great-grandchildren, Evan, Roman and Isabelle Rittenhouse; sister, Shirley Dunn of Allen Park; mother-in-law, Dorothy Roe of Pigeon; brothers-in-law, Bill Roe, David & Nancy Roe; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Rathbun; and one brother, Clayton Rathbun.

Spencer L. Rathbun of Caro and Mission, Texas, age 79, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Covenant Health Care – Cooper in Saginaw.  He was born June 21, 1936 in Howell, the son of the late H. Roy and Myrtle May (Beach) Rathbun.  He was united in marriage with Debra Lynn Roe on November 16, 1996 in Big Rapids, and she survives him. He retired as a civil engineer from MDOT. Spencer enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and traveling in his RV.  He was a member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and enjoyed sharing his faith in God with others.

Spencer is survived by his wife, Debra Rathbun; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie & Scott Rittenhouse of Saginaw; step-daughters and their spouses, Tracy & David Schulz of Naples, Florida, Brandy & Bill Hoch of Huntley, Illinois; grandchildren, Brian, Cody and Anthony Rittenhouse, Hadley and Edyn Hoch; great-grandchildren, Evan, Roman and Isabelle Rittenhouse; sister, Shirley Dunn of Allen Park; mother-in-law, Dorothy Roe of Pigeon; brothers-in-law, Bill Roe, David & Nancy Roe; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Rathbun; and one brother, Clayton Rathbun. 

In keeping with Spencer’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1600 West Gilford Road, Caro, MI.  The family will be present to receive friends at the Kingdom Hall on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Spencer L.
