SULLIVAN, Donald – of Montrose, age 81,
died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be 3 PM
Sunday August 16, 2009 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose, Rev.
Henry Wesenberg officiating. Burial will be at Montrose Township Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-9 PM, Saturday 3-9 PM and
Sunday from 12-3 PM . Contributions may be made to Montrose Memorial Bell, c/o
Montrose Township.
Don was born in Bay City on January 6,
1928 to the late Daniel and Esther (Scheffer) Sullivan. He was a resident of
Montrose most of his life. Don served in the US Navy from 1947 to 1955. He
married Janis Johnston on December 13, 1947 in Montrose. She preceded him in
death on July 1, 2006. Mr. Sullivan retired in 1992 from GMSPO in Swartz Creek.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Birch Run, Flushing VFW Post #
5666, Montrose American Legion Post #367, Lions, FOE, Montrose Historical Society, Montrose Bowman Club, life
member of the NRA, Cub Scouts, 4H Club and was very active in the Blueberry Festival
for many years. He served as Montrose Township Treasurer for over 35 years. Don
and Janis were honored as Blueberry Festival Grand Marshals in 1997.
Surviving are: 3 children, Thomas D.
(Teresa) Sullivan of Cheboygan, Ronald D. (Denise) Sullivan of Clarkston,
Christina (Jim) Monk of Montrose; 7 grandchildren, Jeremy (Tonya), Dan,
Christopher (Shannan), Erin, Matt, Michael and Meghan; 2 great grandsons,
Connor and Gavin; great granddaughter, Isabella; 1 sister Barbara Tanner of
Barton City; nieces and nephews. A sister, Jackie King, also preceded him in
