Carl Frederick Schilling passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord on December 22, 2015 in Saginaw, MI.  He was born in Sebewaing, MI on June 6, 1923 to the late Frederick O. and Lena R. (Kunish) Schilling.

Carl was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Houghton Lake and was formerly a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Amelith where he served as treasurer for many years.  He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Bay City, a member of the Board of Directors of the former Bay City General Hospital and a former Trustee of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan.  He graduated from the University of Michigan with honors in 1950, earning a BBA degree (Accounting major).  He passed the CPA exam on the first attempt and was a certified public accountant practicing in Bay City for many years.  His practice grew to include partners and a wide range of clients.  Carl was an early adopter of computerized accounting and payroll and operated a computer service bureau.  By the end of his career, he was recognized for his expertise in several areas of accounting including estate planning, auditing and business planning. Carl served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine K. (Clewley) Schilling, 3 children: Sandra (Bruce) Lange, Jeffrey (Beth) Schilling and Timothy (Anita) Schilling, his grandchildren:  Piper (Bob) Layton, Stephen and Isaac Schilling, Sam, Joe and Phillip Heaton, Courtney, Madison and Payton Schilling and Clint Vereeke, his great grandchildren: Austen and Justin Layton, a sister Della Burns, a sister-in-law Margot Schierterlein  and many nieces and nephews as well as his step-children: Laurie Tupper, Teresa Clewley, Russell (Mary) Clewley, Joseph (Kari) Clewley, Jamie (Chris) Anderson, 6 step grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.  He also leaves his best friends and and fishing buddy Bob and Michelle Patton and Mary Jo with many thanks for her care of Dad, but mostly for making his precious flowers grow and shine as well as his neighbors and close friends in Sherwood Forest at Houghton Lake. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helma Schilling, his second wife Lorraine M. Schilling, 4 sisters: Florence Sampson, Martha Connors, Elma Schilling and Edna Lutz, a sister-in-law Gertrude Sheppard and a brother-in-law Herbert Stotzel.

The family will receive visitors at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 1 to 5 p.m.  A private service and entombment will be held at Floral Gardens Mausoleum with Rev.
