Violet Irene Prater, age 83, died January 4, 2016 at her Higgins Lake home. Visitation will be on Friday from noon to 8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM until the Mass at 11 AM all at St, Hubert Catholic Church.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.


Vi was born March 10, 1932 in Monroe to William and Elizabeth (Chepley) Kakocky. She married Charles E. Prater in Ida on February 26, 1949 and they lived in Detroit until moving to Higgins Lake in 1977. While in Detroit, she worked for Antoine’s Catering for many years and was a member of the American Legion Northwest Detroit Post #190 Auxiliary.


An active member of St. Hubert Church, she was the Family Bereavement Coordinator, Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the CWC.  She enjoyed sewing, fishing, pinoccle and loved her church.


Preceding her in death were her husband, Chuck; son, Chuck and her sister Mary Kelemen.


Surviving are 3 sons, Mike Prater of Gladwin, Tom Prater of Higgins Lake and Tim Prater of Gladwin; 8 grandchildren, Chuck, Christopher (Kelli), Jeremy (Theresa), Tiffany Murphy, Dawn Aiello, Barbara (Joshua) Mayes-Boustead, Timothy (Coleen) and Kalli Ann; 7 great-grandchildren and 4 nieces, Rozona, Mary, Katrinka and Becky.
