    Katherine (Kirchman) Bergevin McLellan, age 98 years, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Auman) Kirchman of Bay City and was born July 4, 1917.  Katherine attended St. Mary’s School, Bay City Jr. College, graduated from Marygrove College, Detroit, and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Central Michigan University.  She married Thomas E. Bergevin (deceased 1996) on June 17, 1944.  While living in Bay City, she was a member of St. Joseph Parish, its St. Anne Society, and League of Catholic Women.  Katherine served on the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s first Parish Council and the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities.  She taught for 20 years, the last four years as Principal of Holy Trinity Grade School, retiring in 1979.  She volunteered at Bay Arts Council and Bay Literacy Council.  On December 27, 1997, Katherine married Lt. Col. Robert McLellan USMC (deceased 2001).  While living in Ellenton, FL, she was involved in volunteer work for Project Light (teaching English to Hispanics) along with the Food Pantry, preparing food for the homeless shelters in Brandon, FL, where she was a member of Nativity Catholic Church.  She kept busy within the Mercy Bellbrook/Sanctuary Retirement Community while living in Rochester Hills, MI and was a member of St. Irenaeus Parish family.

     Katherine is survived by Jeanne (Bill) Mazzolini, Michele (Raymond) DelCorvo, Renee (Dr. John) Kazmierski, Tim (Cindy) Bergevin, Kathy Dolan (deceased), Patricia (Jon) Hein, Robert (Lynne) McLellan, and Teresa (D.E) Meyers; her sisters, Maria Kavanagh, Margaret Kirchman, and Virginia Bueche; sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Gowenlock; twenty grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Katherine was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Thomas Bergevin and siblings Ed and Frank Kirchman, Rosemary LeFevre, and Maureen Boyle. 

     Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Liturgy at Corpus Christi Catholic Parish (Holy Trinity Church), 1008 S. Wenona, Bay City, MI.  Katherine will lie in state in church Saturday after 9:00 AM.  Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick Mausoleum.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Corpus Christi Parish.  Visiting hours are Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM in the W.
