Dennis J. Babechenko, 69, of Frankentrost, died unexpectedly, Tuesday morning, September 6, 2016 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born January 19, 1947 in Saginaw, son of the late John M. and Elinor (Sahr) Babechenko. Dennis was a 1965 graduate of Reese High School and earned his Bachelor Degree from Central Michigan University. He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1970 – 1972 where he attained the Rank of SP4. On April 16, 1988 he was united in marriage to Linda Thumm in the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. She survives him. He was employed as a Letter Carrier with U.S. Postal Service for thirty-one years before his retirement. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service he was employed as a Bus Dispatcher for the Frankenmuth Public Schools and was also a Driving Instructor at the Frankenmuth Driving School.  Dennis was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. His other memberships included the Pacemakers Auto Club, Big Brothers, and the Cass River Home Brewers Association. He also served as a Cub Scout Master and played in the Frankentrost Band.

 

Surviving besides his wife Linda are his son and daughter, Niklas Babechenko and Noelle (Josh) Andringa; three step-grandchildren, Steven, Eric, and Sara, his sister, Nancy Swanton and her husband Reed, brother-in-law David (Mary) Thumm and his sister-in-law, Karen Thumm.

 

Funeral services for Dennis will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 from the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. Rev. Dr. Ed Kloos will officiate with committal services to follow in the Blumfield Township Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Dennis’ family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese or the Frankentrost Band.
