Donnabell (Dehmel) Shafer, 86, of Clare passed away peacefully at her home with her children at her side on October 5, 2016. She was born January 8, 1930 in Flint to Walter J. Dehmel and Florence Hursh. She married Ira (Gene) Shafer on September 12, 1949 in Clare. She loved crocheting, knitting, quilting, and gardening. She was an active member of the Clare Church of the Nazarene for many years. Members of the church knew her as the “cookie lady”. She furnished 15 to 18 dozen homemade cookies every Sunday until declining health made it impossible for her to continue.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty McKinney of Clare and Kathy and Roy Ranck of Coleman; one son, Robert and Mary Shafer of Clare. Also surviving her are 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister Shirley Wheeler of Potterville, MI, brother-in-law Ronald Shafer of Ionia, MI and sister-in-law Bonnie Seiter of Clawson, Mi. She was preceded in death by her husband Ira (Gene) Shafer, sons Roger F. and Richard D. Shafer and son-in-law Bryan T. McKinney.
Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 8, 2016 at the Clare Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Tim Fall will officiate with interment in the Wise Township Cemetery, Loomis.
Visitation will be at Clare Church of the Nazarene, Friday 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice of Clare Church of the Nazarene in Donna’s name.
