Gene Clancy

Gene Clancy, 88, of Port Austin died January 9, 2017 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe, Michigan.  He was born July 31, 1928 in Hume Township, the son of the late Henry and Mable (McIlhargie) Clancy.  He and Venice Knoblock were married in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Port Austin on November 30, 1957.

Gene owned and operated Clancy & Son’s Utility Company for the past 60 years.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin and was a past member of the usher’s club.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Frank Horetski Post 499, The Port Austin Fire Board, a past member of the Port Austin Lion’s Club and Huron Memorial Hospital Board.

He travelled to all 50 states and many countries.  He and Venice spent the last 35 years wintering in Florida, always anxious for spring to arrive so he could return to Port Austin and his work.  As recent as a few months ago Gene could be seen driving his red truck delivering sand or shale. 

Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Venice, his sons:  Mark (Beth) Clancy of Ypsilanti, Scott (Paula) Clancy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Doug (Lori) Clancy of Port Austin and Todd (Tammy) Clancy of Port Austin.  He is also survived by his grandchildren:  Dean and Jill, Bryan, Kent and Megan, Andrea, Sean and Sara, Clark, Sally, Jack and Kate; one great-granddaughter, Chloe; and his brother, Harry Clancy.  He was preceded in death by his siblings: Mona, Marge, Richard, Phil and Ray.

Funeral Mass for Gene Clancy will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church of The Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Port Austin. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral at 11:00.  There will be a Parish vigil service at 7:00 pm Thursday.  Burial with Military honors will be in the church cemetery.
