Survived By: Susan (Henry) Dahl, Winter Haven, FL, W. Joseph (Brenda) Frahm, Millington, Barbara (Tim) Standfest, Midland, Charles (Sally) Frahm and Thomas (Gail) Frahm, Frankenmuth. Walt was the biggest fan of his 14 adoring grandchildren, attending as many of their events as possible. They survive to cherish his memory; Elizabeth (Jonathon Lunsford) Dahl, William (Myra) Dahl, Jeremy (Amanda) Frahm, Jodie and Jamie Frahm, Sara Bartreau, Justin, Courtney, Brandon, Meagan, Renee, Ashley, Michael, and Keri Frahm. Walt also leaves 5 great grandchildren, a brother Ralph (Marilyn) Frahm and sister Lillian Ueltschi, brother-in-law James (Lynne) Stewart and many other relatives and friends.
Affiliations: Walt was a Saginaw County Commissioner for eight years and had been active in the Michigan Farm Bureau, Saginaw County Farm Bureau, Local Dairy Herd Improvement Association and Michigan Guernsey Breeders. He was a lifetime member and long time volunteer of the Saginaw County Fair and Santa's Village. He also served 24 years on the Frankenmuth Board of Education (23 of those as president) proudly presenting each of his 5 children with their High School diplomas. He served on the HealthSource board of directors and was currently on the HealthSource Advisory board. Walt was also a Mason.

Achievements: He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1945. Walt served in the Armed Forces as a surgical tech in Japan for 18 months. After his honorable discharge on September 8, 1947, he enrolled in the Michigan State University Agricultural Technology Program, graduating in 1948. Walt was Saginaw County’s first recipient of the Outstanding Young Farmers award.Walter humbly accepted many awards and honors during his lifetime. Some of those include; MSU’s Dairyman of the Year in 1972, Distinguished Service to Agriculture award in 1977, the Saginaw County Farm Bureau Outstanding Member award in 1990, Frankenmuth Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellowship award in 1999, and was inducted in the 4-H Emerald Clover Society in 2004.

Passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at HealthSource, Saginaw.  Age 82 years, Walter Elmer Frahm was born on October 12, 1927 in Frankenmuth.  He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1945.  Walter served in the Armed Forces as a surgical tech in Japan for 18 months.  After his honorable discharge on September 8, 1947, he enrolled in the Michigan State University Agricultural Technology Program, graduating in 1948. Walter was Saginaw County’s first recipient of the Outstanding Young Farmers award.  He married Sally Ann Stewart on October 22, 1949 and together they farmed all of their lives.  They were inducted into the Michigan Farmers “Hall of Fame” in 2000.  Sally predeceased Walter in November 2006 after 57 years of marriage.  He was also predeceased by a brother-in-law Frank Ueltschi.

 

They had 5 children;  Susan (Henry) Dahl, Winter Haven, FL, W. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St.  Rev. David Eardley will officiate with burial at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.  Walt's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 6-8 P.M., Sunday 2-8 p.m. and on Monday 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw Valley Agricultural Association (SVAA)or MSU Dairy Memorial Scholarship.
