USN(R) RMC David E. Reichert, 68, of Port Austin Township, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2017 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan.

 

He was born on February 15, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leonard and Shirley (Nelson) Reichert.  David was baptized at the St. Charles Catholic Church on Baldwin Ave. in Detroit.

 

On October 29, 1998, he married the love of his life, Lillian Morris in Marion, Indiana.

 

David was in the U.S. Navy, enlisting when he was 16 years old; he served as a Navy Seal for four years where he was involved with the first Vietnam Prisoner of War swap.   He then became a Master Chief Radioman, retiring in 1986.  

 

David loved to cook, BBQ-ing, tinkering with electronics, hunting and fishing with his best fishing buddy, Brent Morris.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.   David was a very kind, patient, loving, understand man and he will be greatly missed by all, especially by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

David is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lillian Reichert of Port Austin Township; his son, Leonard Reichert and his wife, Donna, of Brickwood, Indiana; his daughter, Chrystal Weaver and her husband, Frankie, of Drasco, Arkansas;  six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; special aunt, Delores Constance of Dearborn, Michigan; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Farhat.

 

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date in Fayettville, Arkansas.

 

Memorials may be offered to the American Legion Post # 499 in Port Austin or to the VFW Post #116.
