Watkins, Benjamin S. (Ben)
Ben a devoted husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and friend passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 1, 2017 at his home. He was born in Muskegon on November 25, 1944 to the late Glenn & Doreen (Reasoner) Watkins and was raised by his step father Donald Smith. He attended Muskegon High School and then served in the U. S. Marine Corp from 1962 to 1967. He married Janice Britt on March 1, 1969 in Hale, Michigan, she survives him. Ben was retired from Bay Aggregate, member of the Kawkawlin Community Church and loved to socialize with his buddies at the Turkey Roast couple times a day. He spent his spare time designing, building and driving dune buggies with his sons and grandchildren. Ben cherished his time that he was with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years and sons Scott & Stephany Watkins and Kevin (Wendy Simmons) Watkins; grandchildren Alyssa, Kendall and Scott Watkins; a sister Carol Middlehurst. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to Dr. Sayed Osama and registered nurses Robbie and Kelly the Davita Dialysis Center for their unbelievable care over the past years.
Funeral services and military honors will be held Sunday March 5, 2017 at 2 pm from the Kawkawlin Community Church with Pastor Charles Campbell presiding with cremation to follow. Family will be present at the Rivertown Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 2 to 7pm to receive friends and family. On Sunday, Ben will lie in state at the church from 1 pm until time of services.
