E. Delphine O’Farrell,  affectionately known as “Digger”, age 94, of Whittemore, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Hale Creek Manor surrounded by her family. She was born on April 4, 1922 in Rogers City, MI to Reginald & Harriet (Holder) Elliott. She married Donald A. O’Farrell on October 25, 1942. Del was a member of the Whittemore United Methodist Church. She liked to travel and go camping when her health allowed, especially camping with her brother Carl and his wife Mary. She enjoyed crocheting and took pride in always remembering to send greeting cards on special occasions. Family was of most importance to her.


Delphine is survived by her children; Barbara (Gary) Gillings of Whittemore, Donald Jay (Jennifer) O’Farrell of Whittemore, James (Debra) O’Farrell of Oscoda, and Maureen (Wayne) Smith of Saginaw; grandchildren, Cary (Arlene) Gillings of Midland, Keith (Dori) Gillings of Traverse City, Kris Gillings of Whittemore, Shawn (Liesje) O’Farrell of Jenison, Jason (Amy) O’Farrell of Battle Creek, Steven (Brooke) Smith of Champaign, IL, Brian Smith of Royal Oak, Jason Corba of Lansing, Grant (Kim) Krasemann of New York City, and Andrew (Zhanna) Krasemann of Minot, ND; great grandchildren, Ian, Laura, Jennifer, Andrew, Megan, Tyler, Annika, Charlie, Annelies, and Amelia; sisters-in-law, Joyce Christian of Bay City, and Mary Elliott of West Branch; brother-in-law, Tony Asel of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don of 62 years; brothers, Preston, Alvin, Carl, Clifford, and William Elliott; sisters, Frieda Busch, Thelma Appleby, Regina Meno, and Evelyn Asel.


The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 2-8 PM at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale. Services will be held at the Whittemore United Methodist Church in Whittemore on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Nathan Jeffords officiating. Interment will be in the Saints Cemetery in Whittemore. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Whittemore United Methodist Church.
