John Peter Rzyhak, 90, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at Medilodge of Midland.  He was born on November 13, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan,  the son of the late John F. and Gertrude (Murawski) Rzyhak.  He and Genevieve “Jean” Dudzik were married on October 9, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church in Ferndale, Michigan.

John served in the United States Air Force during World War II, stationed in Puerto Rico.  Upon returning from the service, he obtained a degree in accounting from the Detroit College of Business.  After working for several years as an accountant for Wayne State University, he purchased a business in 1958 in Port Austin, Michigan called The Dime Store, moving the family to the Thumb area.  After selling the business in 1970, John and Jean enjoyed a long retirement, spending winters in Clearwater, FL and summers in Bad Axe, MI.  They both loved Polka music and attending summer music festivals whenever possible.

He is survived by his wife and three children: Son, John and his wife Mary Beth Bordeaux, of Hemlock and their son Beau Webb of Lake Leelanau, MI:  Daughter, Suzanne and her husband Troy Winkelmann of New London, NC:  and Daughter Barbara Rzyhak and companion, Al Shestokas of Clearwater, FL.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Gibbons of Livonia, MI.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Medilodge of Midland as well as MidMichigan Hospice for the warm care provided to John during the final days of his life’s journey.  Following his wishes cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be planned for later this spring.  Funeral arrangements ware being handled by Knoblock Funeral Home, Kinde, MI.
