Barbara J. Cooper, 69 years old, passed away after a short illness, at McLaren Hospital, Bay City, MI on March 16, 2017.
She was born on July 3, 1947 in Chicago, Il., daughter of Karla M. and Virgil I. Cooper Jr. Barb graduated from St. James High School, Bay City in 1965. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan with a MSW in social work. She lived and worked in Ann Arbor, Flint and Auburn Michigan. Her parents and two brothers Virgil I. (Vic) Cooper III and John F. Cooper predeceased her. Barb is survived by three sisters: Karla E.(Kay) Cooper, Midland MI; Marianne DuVernet, Raleigh NC; and Virginia C. (Ginny) (Rick) Harrison and two brothers Peter G. (Pete) (Sharon) Cooper of Ft. Myers FL and Patrick M. (Pat) Cooper of Merritt Island FL. Barb is also survived by nephews and nieces: D. Jason (Crystal) Urbaniak, Caron (Aaron) Cooper Teare, Jennifer (Pat) Wilson, Joseph Cooper, and Amy (Steve) DuVernet Shelton. In addition, Barb is survived by her special “family” at the Rose Gate Adult Foster Care Home in Auburn. Barb was gifted with a gentle and caring spirit leaving a lasting impression on all whom she encountered including friends dating back to grade school. Her special interest in poetry led to published poems.
Barb’s family will welcome friends at the Auburn Chapel of the Cunningham- Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. on Tuesday March 21st beginning at 3:00 p.m. There will be a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Honoring Barb’s wishes, cremation has taken place and burial of her cremains will take place at a later date in St. Anthony Cemetery (Fisherville). Those planning an expression of sympathy envelopes for the American Heart/Stroke Association will be available at the funeral home.
