Raphael (Ray) Dominic O'Brien, age 88, of Mayville, MI passed away Monday, April 3, 2017.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Site in Mayville, MI with Father Mark Prill officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mayville/Vassar VFW Post #10884 and the Mayville American Legion Post #181 after the Funeral Mass.

 

The family will receive visitors from 2-8 PM at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville, MI on Friday, April 7, 2017, with a time of sharing fondest memories from 4-6 PM, and from 10:30 AM until time of the Funeral Mass at the church on Saturday.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Mayville American Legion Post #181 or the Mayville Share Shop.


Ray was born April 18, 1928 in Mayville, MI, son of the late Francis and Mary (Romain) O'Brien. He graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1946. Ray served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the beloved husband of Harriet Westover. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayville, MI and they were married for 64 years. Ray retired from Eaton Foundry in Vassar, MI after 34 years of service. He loved doing activities with his granchildren, building homes, baking bread and bird watching.

 

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Harriet; loving father of Christal (Jeff), Daniel (Pam), David (LeeAnn) and Theresa (Dan); grandfather of Dominic, Matthew (Anne Marie), Juliette, Nicholas (Sarah), Joel and Kathryn Seger, Christal (Brian) Kettler, Colleen O'Brien (Patrick Spainhower) and Michelle O’Brien, Nicholas and Sarah Buggia, Elizabeth and Rory O’Brien; great grandfather of Jonathon and Molly Meyer, Kimberly and Kennedy Kettler, Malia and Kaden Rossi, Nathan, Elisabeth and Cameryn Seger; many nieces and nephews; and many many special friends including Glen, Doug and Joe.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings.
