Helen E. Kladzyk, 97, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2017 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe under the care of Compassus Hospice.


She was born in Bad Axe on March 28, 1920 to the late John and Mary (Clements) Kavanagh.


Helen married Jerome “Zeke” M. Kladzyk in October 1939.   He preceded her in death in June 1969.


Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church/St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe.  She also was a former member of Verona Hills Golf Club.  Helen enjoyed golfing, completing cross word puzzles every morning in the Detroit Free Press and living vicariously thru her children and grandchildren.


Helen is survived by her children: Kay Preston of Bad Axe, Jane Berris, and her husband Marvin, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mary Jo Guyne and her husband, Michael of Panama City, Florida and Garrett Kladzyk and his wife, Susan of Bad Axe; 12 grandchildren: Paul Preston, Laura Hatch, and Christine Bowman, Lisa Southern, Todd and Keith Kaminski, Timothy Guyne, Renee Patterson, Amy Boyette, Alyssa Kladzyk, Kristy Valadao and Jerome Kladzyk; 15 great grandchildren: Hunter, Ella and Thomas Hatch, Madison and Baily Bowman, Kendall, Reid, Spencer and Truman Southern, Ryan and Alec Kaminski, Lauren Banish, Kayleigh Patterson, Waylon Boyette and Garrett Moyer-Kladzyk; sister, Jean Mario of Milford, Connecticut and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Kladzyk; son-in-law, David Preston; grandson, Michael Preston and her siblings.


Mass of Christian burial will take place 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Rob Howe officiating.   Burial will take place at the church cemetery.


Visitation will be 2 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the MacAlpine Mac Chapel with a Scripture service at 7 pm.   Visitation will also be at the church on Friday 10 a.m. until time of service.


Memorials may be offered to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
