Don, born in Standish, Michigan on February 25, 1942, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's of Michigan-Saginaw on Saturday, April 8, 2017 with his loving family at his side following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Ardith (Solomon), son Dale and daughter Karen (David Tyler); sisters Veryl (LeRoy) Yenior, Cora (Mick) Hartman and Gaynol Fales; sisters-in-law Kay (Harry) Fales, Clara (Robert) Fales, Joy (John) Heintskill and Leona (Al) Kern; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was proceeded in death by his parents Harry and Jane, his two brothers Harry and Bob, his infant daughter Susan, parents-in-law Dayton and Sylvia Solomon and brother-in law David Solomon.
Don inherited his father’s talent for auto and mechanical repair and was the proud owner of his own auto body shop. He lived for a time in Lansing, Flint and Auburn, MI but returned to Standish, remaining there until his passing. A firm believer in community participation, Don held various elected and appointed positions for the City of Standish and Arenac County for many years, including President of the Lions Club, Fire Chief for the Standish Volunteer Fire Department, Arenac County Road Commissioner, Arenac County Planning Commissioner, City Councilman for the City of Standish, and a member of the Arenac County Parks Commission.
Don was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed camping with family and friends, and he dearly loved traveling with family and friends, spending his retirement enjoying more trips to the Upper Peninsula and exploring the United States from coast to coast.
