At the age of 95 years, Leona died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Huron Woods Nursing Center, Kawkawlin.  She was born in Bay City to Frank and Louise (Kazyak) Lesinski on April 10, 1922.  During her childhood and young adult life, Leona was raised on a farm in Fisherville by her grandparents (Michael & Mary Kazyak) and has resided in Bay City since she was united in marriage to Adolph "Dude" Baranek on October 18, 1941.  She and Dude shared their lives together for over 48 years, until his death on August 24, 1990.  Leona was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka Church) and its Rosary-Altar Sodality; League of Catholic Women and Men; P.L.A.V. #162 and K. of C. #414 Auxiliaries; along with the former Felician Sisters Auxiliary.  She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, knitting and gardening (with special attention to removal of those “pesky weeds”!)


Surviving family members include her son and two daughters, Daniel Baranek, Kathleen (Martin) Johnson, and Deborah (William) Salogar; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; as well as two great great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Julie Marie Johnson, her sister, Dorothy Hoffman, and son-in-law, Joseph Gibas.


The Baranek family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the entire staff at Huron Woods Nursing Center for the tender and loving care provided to Leona.


Her Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday afternoon, April 24, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka Church), 1503 Kosciuszko Avenue, Bay City, MI, with Rev. Richard M. Filary presiding.  Cremation has taken place and interment of her cremains will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Visiting time with the family will be at the church only on Monday after 12:30 PM, when  members of the Rosary-Altar Sodality will pray the rosary for Leona’s intention.  Arrangements are in the care of Trahan Funeral Chapel & Prearrangement Center.  Online condolences:  www.trahanfc.com
