Holm, Leatrice 7/27/1935 - 4/6/2017 Saginaw, MI Leatrice Joy Holm (nee Samson) passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2017 at the age of 81. Leatrice (Lea) Joy Samson was born July 27, 1935 in Saginaw. She graduated from Saginaw High School then attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis where she met her future husband, Petrus Holm. They married on November 29, 1957, moved to New York, and together embarked upon a remarkable life journey. Following the birth of their first child, the young family moved to Sweden, her husband's homeland. She learned the language by studying Swedish cookbooks, following knitting instructions, and listening to Swedish radio. Following the birth of two more children, her homesickness prompted a move back to the U.S. where they settled in Bay City, MI for a few years. The young family then moved back to Sweden, had a few more children before ultimately returning to Saginaw to settle down with their growing family. Lea loved children and enjoyed sharing her love of Christ. She was a children's church leader, Sunday School teacher, and child daycare provider. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, playing games, and watching sports, especially Tigers baseball. She was particularly proud of a long-time annual family tradition wherein her entire family comes together for a week of camping and family fun. Lea was known for her wry sense of humor, kindness, loyalty, and generosity. Following the death of her husband in 2012 she moved to an independent senior community, South Colony Place in Saginaw Township. She had many dear friends there and was much beloved by all who had the fortune of knowing her. She helped create a weekly get together for residents to meet, socialize, and work on crafts. Lea enjoyed sharing her love of sewing, knitting, crocheting and welcomed all to her weekly group. She was also involved in the sewing outreach program, Little Dresses for Africa. Leatrice was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Petrus Holm; parents Earl and Stella Samson (nee Greenfield); and sisters Naomi Leisure and Thelma Hubbard. She is survived by her children, Anna Mayer, Ruth Kristin Singer, Mary Harvey (Steven), David Holm, Thomas Holm (Denise), Timothy Holm (Wendy), and Benjamin Holm (Kimberly); thirty-two grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a brother Paul Samson (Marjean). She will also be missed by her many dear friends at South Colony Place and her loyal companion pet, Bambi. A memorial service will be held at Ames United Methodist Church | 801 State St | Saginaw, MI 48602 on April 28, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to service.
