Roy Orlando Milnes, Jr. died June 11, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital at the age of 87.  He was born in Grayling on May 2, 1930 the son of Roy Orlando and Myrle "Peg" (Rodgers) Milnes.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Roy retired from the DNR in 1986 after 35 years as an area supervisor and after retirement was affiliated with Roscommon Auto Recyclers since its inception in 1986.  He resided in the Roscommon and Grayling area except for when the DNR moved him to Tawas from 1957 - 1968.  Roy was a member Roscommon First Congregational Church, Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159, and was a founding member of the Michigan Firemen’s Memorial Festival Committee.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working and playing cards.  He was preceded in death by 3 wives, Lorraine, Marjorie and JoAnn; son-in-law, Gary Binder; grandson, Billy Ries and a sister, Jane Rosin.  He is survived by 4 children, Betty Binder of Swartz Creek, Roy (Kathy) Milnes, III of Littleton, CO, Bernie (Liz) Milnes of Roscommon and Bonnie Marshall of Prudenville; 3 step sons, Larry and Susan Tyler, Steve and Laura Schmid-Tyler and Dave and Tammy Tyler; 8 grandchildren, Julie (Ron), Jeanne, Lindsay (Buddy), Jessica, Elise (Kevin), Megan, Matthew and Zac (Chelsea); 11 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces: Susan (Tom) Clark of Lubock, TX and Shelly (Mike) Wilson of College Station, TX, and many other extended family members.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Thursday and funeral services will be 2 PM Friday all at Walsh Funeral Home in Roscommon.  Those wishing to make a donation in his memory are asked to consider Charles M.
