Dorothy Erbisch Stoeckle Thoms

On June 29, 2017, after 94 years of earthly life, the Lord called home His daughter, Dorothy Stoeckle Thoms, who now is rejoicing in the salvation of our God.

Dorothy was born in Sebewaing, MI on February 28, 1923, to Friedrich and Martha Erbisch.  She became a child of God through Holy Baptism and was confirmed in the faith God gave her at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing.  After graduating from Sebewaing High School in 1941, she worked as a bookkeeper for Sebewaing Motor Sales until her marriage to Herbert Stoeckle on February 10, 1945.  Now a busy homemaker and mother to their three children, Dorothy also spent time caring for the large vegetable garden, spending summer days preserving the bounty for winter use.   She enjoyed getting her hands in the dirt and kept beautiful flower beds around the yard.  Additionally, she helped form and was a valued leader of the Kilmanagh Happy Helpers 4-H Club; participated in the Kilmanagh Extension Club; and along with Herb, was an active member in their Farm Bureau group.  In 1969 she decided to accept the position of Secretary to the Huron County Board of Commissioners for the next 17 years, retiring in 1986.

She and Herb had been married 31 years when he passed away in 1976.  Nine years later, on October 26, 1985, she married Albert Thoms, one of the County Commissioners.  In spite of their attempts to keep this a private event, it became a very newsworthy occasion.  Their family now consisted of nine adult children whose families kept growing over 25 years of their marriage to include many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by Herbert (1976), Albert (2011), son-in-law Richard Shuler, and daughters Marlene Tschirhart and Judy Devereaux. She is survived by her extended family--Sandra (Ernest) Stoeckle Schuette, Karen Stoeckle Shuler, Warren (Jan) Stoeckle, Carl (Colleen) Thoms, Alan (Kathy) Thoms, Shirley (Pele) Tautolo,  Leo (Lynne) Thoms, Ed (Marian) Tschirhart and Jim (Nina) Devereaux along with 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, who were all dearly loved!

A Christian burial will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville (Pigeon address) on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:00 am; Pastor Christopher Suggitt will be officiating.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017, from 2pm to 7pm at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing and from 10:00 am to beginning of service on Monday, July 3.

Memorials can be made to The Lutheran Hour.

Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Sebewaing.
