Leona C. Gielda passed away at 91 years of age peacefully Tuesday morning

July 18, 2017 at Bay County Medical Care Facility. Leona was born February

22, 1926 in Fisherville to the late George and Stella (Kalinowski) Kitts. She

married John P. Gielda (predeceased) November 22, 1947 at St. Anthony

Church, Fisherville. Leona and John had two children, Thomas A. Gielda of

Bay City and Constance Westphal of Midland. Leona retired from the Midland

Country Club where she worked as desk clerk for many years. She had a sharp

mind and quick sense of humor. Leona loved being outdoors working in her

flower beds, playing cards, bingo, scrabble, shopping and traveling. She

volunteered at St. Gabriel Church as sacristan and with funeral luncheons.

Leona is survived by one sister in-law, Rose Kitts. She is also survived by three

grandchildren, Christopher, Tanya, Nicholas Westphal and one great grandson,

Jacob Orvis who she dearly loved. Leona also had a very good friend, Sheryl

Burke who was always there for her and a special niece, Germaine Rockwell,

who was not only a niece but a best friend.

 

 

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday July 21, 2017 at St.

Gabriel Parish (East Campus-84 W. Midland Rd.) Auburn. Rev. Fr. Thomas

E. Sutton will officiate. Rite of committal will be at 12:30 p.m. in St. Anthony

Cemetery (Fisherville). Leon’s family will receive friends at the Auburn Chapel

of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. on Thursday from 4:00-8:00

p.m. On Friday morning Leona will lie in state at the CHURCH from 9:00 a.m.

until time of mass. There will be a parish vigil service 7:00 p.m. Thursday

evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial to

St. Gabriel Parish (Auburn) or the American Cancer Society. The family

Expresses a special thanks to the staff of Bay Medical Care Facility for all the

special care they gave Leona.
