Richard Milton Harris, age 90, of East Tawas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Eden Fields Memory Care Facility in Standish where he has been a current resident since January.  Dick was born on March 31, 1927 in Kipling, Michigan to Norman and Mae (Weller) Harris.  He graduated from Escanaba High School in Escanaba, Michigan in 1944, then continued his education at Michigan Technological University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering in 1949. While studying at Michigan Tech, Dick had the opportunity to participate on the university's ski team.  He proudly served our country during World War II in the United States Navy, serving as a naval medic and being stationed primarily in northern California.  He married his wife and best friend, Cecilia J. Turcotte, on October 1, 1949, and together they celebrated 61 beautiful years of marriage until Cecilia's passing on February 1, 2011.  The couple settled in East Tawas in 1949 and Dick began his long time career at National Gypsum Company where he worked as a Chemical Engineer, and later as a Plant Manager, until his retirement in 1983.  He then went to work for Jefferson Trucking as a Safety Director from 1983 to 1988.  Dick will be always remembered for his community involvement and his enthusiasm for the Tawas Area.  For many years, Dick was a Tawas Little League Baseball Coach, an East Tawas Lion's Club member, a member of the Board of Trustees in 1967 for the St. Joseph Hospital Board and served as President for the hospital board from 1968-1975.  He also served on the Huron Community Bank Board of Directors from 1974 to 1999, and was an Iosco County Road Commissioner from 1987 to 2012.  Dick was an avid golfer.  As a matter of fact, Dick had the privilege of scoring several hole-in-ones, and one of the most memorable opportunities came on the opening day at Red Hawk on June 11, 1999 on hole 17!  Above all of his involvements and experiences, Dick truly loved spending time with his family and making many fun memories.  He had the honor of passing his knowledge of snow skiing down to his 5 children, teaching them all to ski at Silver Valley!  Dick will be forever remembered by all who had the honor to know and love him.  He is survived now by his 5 loving children, Mark (Mary) Harris of Land 'O' Lakes, Florida, Amy Harris (Chuck Dixon) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Joan (Rick) Rokseiwicz of Rhodes, Michigan, Bruce Harris (Holly Rasch) of North Port, Florida, and Keith (Jennifer) Harris of Wyoming, Michigan; 5 grandchildren, Holly Brock, Jason (Katie) Harris, Katie (Ryan) Jacobs, Ashley (Daniel) Adam, and Drew Harris; 2 great grandchildren, Harris and Presley Jacobs; 3 siblings, Gene (Marie) Harris, Jerry (Carole) Harris, Theresa (Bill) Streeter; 2 brothers-in-law, Henry Turcotte and Ellis Jones; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  Dick is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Cecilia; a grandson, Jared Brock; and 2 brothers, Bob and Ted.  Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will take place at a later date.  Those wishing to express their condolences are encouraged to visit www.bureshfuneralhomes.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Catholic School in his name.  The address for the school is:  Holy Family Catholic School, 411 Wilkinson Street, East Tawas, Michigan 48730, or call (989) 362-5651.  Cremation arrangements are by the Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City
