Survived By: his children and their spouses, Cheryl Wisniewski of Midland, Debra Witkoske of Midland, Richard (Heide) Witkoske of Midland, Thomas Witkoske of Sanford, Gerald (Lucy) Smith of Midland, Ellen (Bill) Grebe of Beaverton, Ronald (Vicki) Smith of Sugar Springs, and Elaine (Kevin) Roosa of Midland; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Edward (Barbara) Witkoske of Plainwell, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, William Smith.

 Richard Lee Witkoske, 88, of Sanford, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday evening, August 3, 2017 at his home. He was born February 18, 1929 in Flint, son of the late Adolph and Irene (Mashue) Witkoske. On August 6, 1976 he married the former Elma Kuivinen Smith in Midland. She predeceased him October 4, 2001. Richard was employed at the Dow Chemical Company in Midland as a boiler maker, welder, and pipefitter, retiring in 1986 after many years of service. He was an active and longtime member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sanford and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church. He liked to watch the Detroit Tigers and tolerated the Lions. He was caring and contributed to many noble charities. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodcarving. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

 



Surviving are his children and their spouses, Cheryl Wisniewski of Midland, Debra Witkoske of Midland, Richard (Heide) Witkoske of Midland, Thomas Witkoske of Sanford, Gerald (Lucy) Smith of Midland, Ellen (Bill) Grebe of Beaverton, Ronald (Vicki) Smith of Sugar Springs, and Elaine (Kevin) Roosa of Midland; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Edward (Barbara) Witkoske of Plainwell, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, William Smith.

 



A Memorial Service to celebrate Richard’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from Trinity Lutheran Church, 3701 N. Jefferson Ave., in Midland with Rev. Gerald Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Private family Committal Services will take place Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund.
