FRYE, Howard B. Sr., - of Burt, age 93, died Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. Mary’s of Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Rev. Rey Mondragon officiating. Burial in Cook Cemetery with full Military Honors under the direction of the Birch Run VFW Post #7542. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 10AM until the time of service at 1PM. A firemen’s honorary walkthrough will be held prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burt United Methodist Church.


Howard was born August 18, 1924 in Burt, Michigan to the late Burton and Edith (Baker) Atwell, and raised by the late Glenn and Edith Frye. Burton had died when Howard was three years old and after, his mother, Edith married Glenn from Bancroft, MI, and he adopted Howard. Glenn became a wonderful father to Howard. He graduated from Hill-McCloy High School. Howard married Beulah Gubbins on June 28, 1947 at Montrose United Methodist Church. Mr. Frye is a U.S. Navy, WWII Veteran, having served from July 1943 until March of 1946. He retired from Baker Perkins in Saginaw after 40 years of service. Howard belonged to the Taymouth Township Fire Department for 66 years and was later elected as the Fire Chief and named “Fireman of the Year” in 1991, 2006 and 2013. He was a member of Burt United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Montrose Masonic Lodge #428, lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #351, Burt American Legion, Birch Run VFW Post #7542, Vice President of the Montrose Gleaners, and lifetime member of the Saginaw County Fair. Howard was honored as the Grand Marshal of the Birch Run Independence Day Parade in 2017. He enjoyed traveling, helping others anyway he could, and was very involved with his community and volunteering. Howard’s life mission was serving his God, Country, and Fellow Man.


Surviving are: Wife of 70 years, Beulah Frye; Daughters: Linda (Eric) Thomas, Mary (Phil) McMullen, and Suann (Kevin) Powell-Rodgers; Son, Howard Frye Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; Furry companion, Lady; Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his son, Glenn Edwin Frye; Great granddaughter, Justiana McMullen; Sisters: Nellie and Alice; Brother, George.
