DELORES L. KOPEC

At the age of 91 years, Delores died Friday, September 8, 2017 in Caretel Inns of Tri Cities.  She was born to Charles and Antonia (VanZale) Gatza on July 3, 1926 in Bay City, where she resided all her life.  Delores was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. Joseph Church) and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  She enjoyed all sports, especially baseball and basketball, as well as boat rides, traveling, walking on the beach, her flowers and butterflies. 

 

On May 28, 1949, Delores was united in marriage to Eugene J. Kopec and they shared their lives together for over 56 years until his death on March 27, 2006.  Surviving family members include her daughter and son, Karen (Vaughn) Roller of MA and Thomas (Becky) Kopec of Freeland; four grandchildren, Derek (Caitlin) and Lauren Roller, Nicholas and Ashley Kopec; one brother and four sisters, Charles, Jr. (Margaret) Gatza, Marie Lipinski, Jeanette Beardsley, Kathryn Charron, and Sister Julie Gatza.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil (Colleen) and Harold (Carol) Gatza; sister-in-law, Norma Gatza; along with three brothers-in-law, Ambrose Lipinski, Robert Beardsley, and Kenneth Charron.

 

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. Joseph Church site), 1005 Third Street, Bay City, MI.  Delores will lie in state in church Saturday after 10:00 AM.  Rev. Patrick C. O’Connor will preside and Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org/gmc) or “Family Wishes”.  Visiting hours are Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM in the W.
