Karen age 73, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 9, 1944 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Vernon & Edith (Pickvet) Dubey. She married the love of her life Michael on August 18, 1962 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Karen was a member of the St. Valentines Parish. She and her husband were owner and operators of the Backus Hardware for numerous years, she was an established cook at the Silver Derby. Karen enjoyed dairy farming, gardening, going on casino trips and watching the Detroit Tigers but most of all spending time with her family. Surviving besides her husband of 55 years are their children; Michelle Backus, Michael Jr. (Rita) Backus, Mark (Marla) Backus and Timothy (Diane) Backus, her sisters and a brother; Janice (Roy) Piotrowski, Maggie (friend Larry) Gaiser, Joyce (Ben) Conklin, Joe (Delphine) Dubey, Gail (Robert) Lardie, LeAnne (Dr. Ernie) Balcueva and Betty (Joe) Proulx. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Derek and Shelby (Joe Kustra) Backus, Cheslie (Chris) Lange, Jacob and Zachery, Mikaela (fiancé Buddy Wackerle) Backus, Alaina Backus and Raeleen Backus, great grandchildren Harper Lange and Ellie Lange, Wayne Leo IV Wackerle,many nieces and nephews and a close family member Gary Razmer. She will be missed dearly by her close friend Ruth Ann Williams, and her neighbor ladies, Carol, Sandy, Ben and Jan who she shared many walks and meals with. She was predeceased by a brother in law Harry Gaiser and a niece Roxanne Piotrowski. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to St. Mary’s Trauma Center and Reverence Hospice.


Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10 am from the Prince of Peace- St. Valentines Catholic Church Nine Mile and Parish Rd in Kawkawlin with Rev. Fr. Nick Coffaro presiding with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 8 pm. On Monday, a Prayer Vigil will be held at 7 pm. On Tuesday, Karen will lie in state at the church from 9 am until time of service.
