Survived By: Surviving are one daughter, five sons and their spouses, Lori and Gabe Villarreal, Freeland; Alan and Debbie Morningstar, Hoboken, Georgia; Bryce and Laurie Morningstar, Bridgeport; Kevin and Amy Morningstar, Denver, Colorado; Eric and Kellie Morningstar, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Jason and Michele Morningstar, Maumee, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Betty Hansen; several nieces and nephews. Lyman was preceded in death by his siblings, Marcia (Ken) Tetloff, Gersh (Carolanne) Morningstar and Sam Morningstar.

Freeland, Michigan

 Loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at his home.  Age 92 years.  The son of the late Ralph and Lillian (Lyman) Morningstar, Lyman was born on October 24, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He married Margot I. Froeber on June 25, 1949.  She predeceased him on January 14, 2017. Lyman proudly served in the 100th Bomb Group as a B-17 Turret Gunner in the United States Army Air Force-European Theatre during WWII. After graduating from Michigan State College (MSU) with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Lyman was editor of two small town newspapers and worked in the advertising department at Dow Chemical in Midland. Later, he earned his Masters +1 and was employed at Bridgeport-Spaulding Schools as a teacher, retiring after 25 years in 1988.  He was a former member of the Y.M.C.A and N.A.I.C. Lyman was a former president of the Bridgeport Education Association, former board member of the Saginaw County Employees Credit Union and former District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America.

 

Surviving are one daughter, five sons and their spouses, Lori and Gabe Villarreal, Freeland; Alan and Debbie Morningstar, Hoboken, Georgia; Bryce and Laurie Morningstar, Bridgeport; Kevin and Amy Morningstar, Denver, Colorado; Eric and Kellie Morningstar, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Jason and Michele Morningstar, Maumee, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister,  Betty Hansen; several nieces and nephews.  Lyman was preceded in death by his siblings, Marcia (Ken) Tetloff, Gersh (Carolanne) Morningstar and Sam Morningstar.



Honoring Mr. Morningstar’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 12:00 Noon on Monday, November 27, 2017at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Gabriel Villarreal, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors rendered by V.F.W. Post #1859.  Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
