Gilbert W. “Gib” Weiss

Loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully Thursday, November 30, 2017, at MediLodge of Frankenmuth with his family by his side; age 91 years.  Gilbert Weiss was born on September 2, 1926, in Frankenmuth, MI to the late Ferdinand and Emma (Nuechterlein) Weiss.   He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in France, Belgium and Germany during World War II.  He was previously married to Suzannah “Sue” Kilroy in 1948; she predeceased him in May 1981 after a lengthy illness.  He later married Henrietta “Etta” (Wienberg) Weirauch in June 1982; she survives him. 


Gib was co-owner of Weiss Equipment, retiring in 1996.  He was a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and served on the Board of Trustees and several other committees.  He was also a member of American Legion Post 150, served on the Frankenmuth Fire Department for 25 years and was active in Michigan’s Own Military and Space Museum.


Surviving besides his wife are his son, Terry (Ruthie) Weiss of Frankenmuth, MI; daughter, Diane (Chuck) Slivensky of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Chris (Barbara) Weiss, Randi (Billy) Watchorn, Rachel Raynor and Anna (Mark) Blevins, and many great-grandchildren; also stepchildren David (Betty) Weirauch; Dennis (Lynette) Weirauch; Tim (Cheryl) Weirauch; Tom (Patty) Weirauch and Anne (Ken) Brickel, several step-grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren and many cousins.


Besides his parents and first wife, Gib was predeceased by his brother, Ray, and two sisters, Lenora and Anita (Rau) Rupprecht.


Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 4, 2017, at 10:45 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:30 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.  Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate, with burial between services in St. Lorenz Cemetery.  Gib’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
