Giles C. Hofacer, Sr. of East Tawas, formerly of Oscoda, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice, age 89 years.  Giles was born on May 4, 1928 in Chesaning to Herman and Clara (Pringle).  He attended Oscoda High School and then enlisted in the United States military, proudly serving in the 82nd Airborne division from 1946 to 1948.  Soon after his honorable seperation from the armed forces, Giles met and married his beautiful wife and best friend, Lola Mae (Hempton) on January 9, 1954 in Indiana.  Together they celebrated nearly 65 years of marriage!  Giles will be always remembererd for his active and athletic interests during his life.  He truly enjoyed playing golf, baseball, pool, water skiing, swimming, tennis, and bowling on several leagues.  Giles loved being involved in his children's lives and activities.  During their younger years, he coached Little League Baseball in East Tawas. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose, and the Eagles for many years. Giles was a long time employee of the Iosco News Herald and Oscoda Press Newspapers.  He also worked for George Buckmeier Construction over a course of many years.  He was the type of man who took great pride in what he did, and strived to reach perfection.  Giles would try to learn new things, and over time became practically a "jack of all trades" and strived for greatness in everything he did.  Giles will be remembered, missed, and forever loved by all who knew him.  He is now survived by his beloved wife, Lola Hofacer of East Tawas; loving children, Keith (Jan) Robinson, Rene Hofacer, Kris (Sereina Lowell) Hofacer, Robina Mae (Phil) Olson, and Hugh (Wanda) Hofacer; daughter in law, Lee Ann Haught; grandchildren, Kyle (Tiffany), Kari, Joseph (Denise) , Jay (Amber), Kristen, Rylon (Kelsey), Miles (Sara), Giles III, Shannon, Kegan, Lilah, Ryan (Amber), Tony, Sabrina and Nathan; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Mallory, Camren, Zaynah, Wren, Shaylynn, Raylee, Nevaeh, and Lyndon; 1 sister, Elaine (Don) Clark; many nieces, nephews, and special friends.  Giles is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Clara Hofacer, son, Giles Jr, and his siblings, Howard Hofacer, Shirley Stuart, and Wanda Eberhardt, and Vivian Hofacer.  Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life through a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2017 3-7 PM at the American Legion in East Tawas.  The Military Honors will be at 4 PM.  He will be laid to rest in the American Legion Cemetery in East Tawas.
