Robert "Bob" Schleder

Robert “Bob” Schleder passed away at Schnepp Health Care Center on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.  Bob was born June 5, 1937 at home in Emerson Township to Oscar and Beatrice (Marrin) Schleder. He married Alice Clark on October 12, 1957, they shared 60 years of marriage together.

Bob attended the Heron country school, and graduated from Ithaca High School.  He worked on the family farm and for other farmers in the area in his early years.  He worked for Wolverine World Wide in Ithaca until it closed.  He retired from the Gratiot County Courthouse after several years of service.  Bob served his country in the United States Army from 1960-1962 on active duty and in the Army National Guard until 1966.

He was a member  of 4-H, the Kellogg gun club, A-Tractive tractor club where he enjoyed tractor pulling with his family, a member of the Ithaca American Legion post 0334, and enjoyed hunting, and golfing.  

Bob is survived by his wife Alice, daughters, Cindy (Jose) Castillio, and Dawn (Eric) Williams. Grandchildren, Ashley Riley (Nathan Thomas) and family, Francisca Castillo, Nathaniel  Castillo, Amelia Castillo and  family, Jennifer Harbor and family, Joe Castillo and Family, Jeremy Castillo, Mallory (Jon) Zalud and family, and Trevor (Maddy) Williams.  Brothers, Richard (Phyllis) Schleder of Ithaca and Roger (Marcella) Schleder of Ithaca.  Sister, Rayna (Afe) Bos of Caledonia, and a sister-in-law Linda (Kale) Bradley of Avon Park, FL.  Brothers-in-law, Fred (Kay) Clark of St. Louis, and Wayne Clark of St. Louis.  A special Aunt, Gertrude Marrin of Alma, special friends, Helen and Fred Hoard of Ithaca, and many special nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Beatrice Schleder, an infant son, Thomas Neil Schleder, an infant sister, Evelyn Schleder, sister, Marilyn (Joann) Schleder, brother, Phillip Schleder, and in-laws, Murl and Fern Clark, Christina and Francis Miller, Murl (Speed) and Alta Clark, Helen and Audrey Derry, and Sharon Clark.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Matt Derby officiating.  Interment will follow in Ithaca Cemetery.  Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the Barden Funeral Home.  Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging or the organization or your choice.
