SCHEFFLER, Walter L. “Walt” “Sunny” – of Birch Run, age 88, died Friday, February 09, 2018 at Medilodge in Frankenmuth. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Walt at 11AM Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Saints Francis and Clare Parish, 12157 Church Street, Birch Run. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Monday from 1PM until 7PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners or Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.


 Walt was born on January 24, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Crandall) Scheffler. He attended Dixie School in Saginaw. Walt married Helen Giltrop on September 20, 1952 in Bridgeport, Michigan. He was enlisted in the United States Army and served as Military Policeman. Mr. Scheffler retired from Fisher Body in 1983 with 27 years seniority and was a member of UAW Local #1292. Walt was a member of Saints Francis and Clare Parish for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and cutting wood. Walt loved to spend time with his grandchildren and was proud of his 1929 Model A car.


Surviving are: Wife of 65 years, Helen; Children: Tim (Deborah) Scheffler, Jim (Roxann) Scheffler, and John (Janet) Scheffler; Grandchildren: Michele (Tony) Teneyuque, Tim (Jennifer) Scheffler, Stephanie (Darren) Gohn, John Scheffler, Christopher (Rachel) Scheffler, Jody (Dave) Funk, Jessie (Rob) Fulco, Jeremiah Scheffler, Apryl Scheffler, and Lee Scheffler; Brothers: Norman (Susan) Scheffler and Dale Scheffler; Daughter-in-law, Ginger Scheffler, and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: Son, Terry Scheffler; Grandchildren: Anthony Teneyuque Jr. and Nicholas Teneyuque; Great granddaughter, Leeah Scheffler, and 4 sisters.
