Gale W. (Gus/Popi) Miller of Vassar, MI passed from our world into God’s Kingdom early Monday afternoon Feb. 12, 2018. Gus was 85.



Gus was born on February 19, 1932 in Vassar MI and was the son of the late Elgin and Mary (Lambert) Miller and has been a Vassar resident his entire life. He was a graduate of Vassar High School class of 1950. On November 12, 1955 Gus married Miss Barbara VanAlstine, and he and Barb have celebrated 62 years of marriage. Gus retired from the Saginaw News after 37 years of employment. Gus worked with the Saginaw News as a printer, he served his apprenticeship with Vassar Pioneer Times before taking the job at the Saginaw News. Gus was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Vassar, MI and in the past Gus has served the church in many ways. Gus in the past has served as the Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir, ushered, and has served as congregational secretary. Gus enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and bird watching.



Gus leaves his wife; Barb. He leaves also four children; Gayle Miller & her friend Kelly Waynick, Connie & Mike Roberts, Jim & Sonya Miller, and Susan & Steve Bertoia. Popi (as his grandkids called him) leaves five grandchildren; Michael Roberts, Kenny Miller, Avery Miller, Maria and Sarah Bertoia. Gus also leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Besides his parents, Gus is also preceded in death by his siblings.



The Miller family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington for a time of visiting and sharing on Friday Feb.-16-2018 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  A celebration of Gus’s life will be held 11:00 am Saturday Feb. 17, 2018 at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Vassar, MI where Gus will lie in state on Saturday from 10:00 am until the services begin. The burial will follow at the Tuscola Twp. Cemetery in Tuscola, MI Pastor James Plocher will deliver the message and closing prayer at the cemetery. Memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
